The Narrator—"...The desire for connection, the search for a meaning, the hope for something more...
"Along the search there are clues in nature, science, history, and in life itself. These are subtle clues revealed in the unseen patterns and laws that govern the very order of the universe. They are found in the changing of the seasons, life and death, seed time and a harvest. These laws are everywhere for anyone to discover.
"Though many end their search with the discovery of these laws and choose to look no further, there are others who look beyond. They follow the clues, each one leading them into a deeper connection to the source of all the good they have ever known. For simply knowing this source changes their lives forever.
"In 2006 a cultural self-help phenomenon swept the world known as "The Secret". The multimillion-selling book and DVD promised its followers a better, more satisfying life by activating the Law of Attraction and provoking the spiritual curiosity in millions of people around the globe. This provocative doctrine boldly declares that every event in our lives, whether tragic or glorious, is under our control. Every good or bad thing that happens to us enters our lives through the doorway of our individual thoughts and feelings. This dogma begs the questions: "Are we solely responsible for every good and bad thing that happens to us?"
"Are there other laws operating in the universe that impact the Law of Attraction?" and "What awaits those who discover the source of these laws?""
The Source of the Secret
What Is The Secret? What Is Law Of Attraction?
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"The Secret espouses this. It espouses 'like attracts like'. Everything coming to your life, you're attracting to your life through your dominant cause by virtue of the Law of Attraction. If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand."
Peter Daniels, Doctor/Lecturer
—"The Law of Attraction, as I define it,
is real and clearly has benefits
- positive instructed thought patterns
that are vital to success."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"The way they portray the Law of Attraction is, if you walk into your life having positive thoughts or being positive to other people that are around you versus being negative and complaining, that you actually do create a kind of environment in which you live and the activity that you participate in is either helped or hurt by your thoughts and your attitudes and the things you hold in your mind."
Kyla M. Kurian, Ph.D., Psychotherapist
—"When I first was watching some excerpts of The Secret, I was very fascinated with the positivity of the actual message. It reminded me a lot of Norman Vincent Peale's book on the 'Power of Positive Thinking,' in which he talks about using positive mantras to create positive outcomes in your life, pretty much like the Law of Attraction."
Peter Daniels, Doctor/Lecturer
—"Living life in the absence of positive thinking
will severely limit the potential
for the Law of Attraction to contribute
to your personal growth."
Robb Thompson, Doctor/Author/Lecturer/Life Coach
—"An individual's mind becomes the battleground of their future. The future of their life is determined upon what they think.
How you think determines the outcome of your life. The Law of Attraction actually goes to work inside this battlefield."
Victor Dickson, COO. Family Harvest Church
—"If you look at many professional athletes, you'll see the Law of Attraction in action. You'll see that they spend a great deal of time managing their own thoughts, making sure that they focus on the right thing and visioning what they want to happen, because they know that there is something about that process that will lead them in that direction."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"If a ball player doesn't have the confidence to believe that he can go out and get the job done, it definitely affects his ability to get it done. The Law of Attraction will play against that player. Confidence, the way you think about yourself, if you go for a job interview and you don't feel very secure and believe you're the person for the job, then that's probably going to bleed through in how you communicate."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"What I love about The Secret is The Law of Attraction. It is an automatic law. It works whether you believe it or not. You are applying the Law of Attraction by manifesting your dominant thoughts whether you realize it or not."
Dan Arnold, CEO. Road Ranger USA
—"The clearest example of the Law of Attraction in everyday life is when you buy a car, and all of a sudden you realize that there are a lot of cars like that. And so if you're reading a book on American history or stocks, then all of a sudden you start picking up conversations around you that normally you would ignore and filter out. Now all of a sudden your ears perk up and then you gravitate to those conversations and you find yourself engaged in it."
Shad Wehrli, Life Coach/Co-Creator: "Source of The Secret"—"I think The Law of Attraction is absolutely real. I see it all the time in my life, where I'll be maybe in an angry mood, maybe something is not going right that day for me, and it just seems to me like the day seems to go that way, where people will maybe not deal with me the way that I like them to. And so, I think that The Law of Attraction is absolutely real. And here is the really interesting part. The Law of Attraction is real whether we believe it or not."
Ken Bakken, D.O. DR.P.H., Author/Pain Management Specialist
—"All of us as practitioners know of people who seem to carry a 'cloud of darkness' around them and have one accident after another, slip-and-falls, auto accidents and other kinds of things, and their life is in shambles. And it does appear to be that there is something going on here, something like the Law of Attraction. And conversely, there are people who live positively and up even in the midst of pain and suffering."
Is The Law Of Attraction Really A Secret?
John Bevere, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker—"The Law of Attraction and all the laws described in The Secret work, because they are laws that have already been established by God. You can look in the Bible, and you can see that God says: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue..." – Proverbs 18:21. God says, "Man should live well by the fruit of his mouth" in Proverbs. The Bible says that a merry heart does good like a medicine."
Dr. Eugene Flood, Jr. President & CEO. Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.—"The Law of Attraction is one of many things in the Secret book that are related to what God has taught us in the Bible. And so it gets people a step closer to a healthier life."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"You can be an agnostic, you can be an atheist, you can be a whatever, a pagan, and you can learn the laws of sowing and reaping as well as the Law of Attraction. And you can bring good into the world. And God designed it that way."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"In Romans chapter 12 verse 14 it says, "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." Why? Why should you bless and not curse? Is it because good people bless and bad people curse or are negative? No. It's because of what you attract. When you bless, you attract blessing. When you're negative, you begin to attract the repercussions of negativity. That's the Law of Attraction, and it's everywhere in the Scripture."
Dr. Eugene Flood, Jr. President & CEO. Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.—"If we live in a good way, we will get good results. If we live in a bad way, we will get bad results. And just by recognizing that, even if you don’t recognize that the source of the Law of Attraction is God, you can make a lot of progress."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"James even says, "...pray ye one for another so that you may be healed..." – James 5:16. In other words, as you pray for other people's healings, you benefit from the Law of Attraction and attract healing onto yourself."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"So I think that when people, whether they're a saint or a sinner, hear some of these thoughts about the Law of Attraction and realize that their thoughts really matter and they start correcting some of those things and are maybe becoming a little more positive, I think that those are things that lift and help human beings, that God would want everyone to embrace."
The Quick Fix
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured On The Original "The Secret" —"There is a spiritual vacuum out there. We have a whole generation of people who have been in a physical world and that's really all they're focused on. It's their physical surroundings. They call it 'in the moment.' And whatever that is, whether it's drugs or sex or whatever other gratification or needs they have at the moment, they are 'in the moment.' They would definitely use the Law of Attraction to focus on attracting those gratifications 'in the moment.' We've got a whole generation or two that have grown up that way. And they're desperately seeking something else, something larger in their lives, something more significant out there than just satisfying themselves momentarily."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"People are desperate for answers. The fallen nature of society, broken homes, busted up lives, credit card consumer debt, etc. These things are just crippling and eating away the fabric of our nation. And so people want to be free from these things. They want a quick and easy way out, and the Law of Attraction comes in quite handy."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"We're in a culture of immediate gratification, and the Law of Attraction fits in quite well for that purpose. Basically, everybody can drive through anywhere and get something to eat, and be at the bank and get some money immediately... Get whatever we want right now."
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured On The Original "The Secret"
—"We live in a 'me-kiddy' world in which the Law of Attraction comes across as a 'genie in a bottle.'
We want it hot, we want it fast, we want it now."
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos"—"There is an element of process, something that takes time. And we also live in a microwave society, where we want to be able to plug something in for our career, for the relationships we want or need, and do all the right things, follow the formula, if you will, and suddenly, just by virtue of the power of the Law of Attraction or the natural forces in those things, we get what we want. Well in reality that's not realistic. There are certain things in life that take time."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"The Law of Attraction is one of the principles that bring about abundance and that bring about prosperity. Those principles are not things that can be gotten through a drive-thru window. They are not something that can be thought about, imagined and created quickly. They are a part of a process."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"And I think that the Secret book tends to put forth a -so to speak- quick and easy way out. But the sad thing is that with the Law of Attraction alone it's not quick. And neither is it easy."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"Our culture seems to lack, with the Internet technology and all that sort of things that happen so quickly, the ability to wait for the Law of Attraction to take the time to bear good fruit.."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"It's more than thinking. The Law of Attraction really is about the decisions, details of your life, value system, and about beginning to actually live in a different way for a higher purpose."
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"I think you mislead people with the quick-fix Law of Attraction formula. It's almost a form of poisoning them in a sense, a temporary set of euphoria '-oh, yes, I can have whatever I want.' The letdown has to be somewhat painful."
Michael Hammer, Chairman Armand Hammer Foundation
—"My concern for the people that are using the Secret book and the Law of Attraction as an 'end all' is that once they get to the end of the road and they realize that there is no happiness there, that it's not the whole picture, where do they turn?"
When The Secret Or The Law Of Attraction Doesn't Work
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"There are number of people that have worked very, very hard, and thought good thoughts, and believed good things, and it worked out for them. But there are a number of people that it hasn't worked out for. And sometimes it's really related more to God's Mercy that something works out well, rather than it is, 'I worked this principle so well.'"
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"In the Secret it is sort of suggested that this law has no bounds, and which is a bit fantastical to suggest that any one person can so develop their minds and so cultivate their thoughts with such power that everything they think becomes a thing. It would make The Law of Attraction omnipotent. And it would sort of mean that there is no other law that can ever push back on that. Now that's really a problem."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"Let me illustrate it this way. There is the Law of Gravity. And we know that's a universal law that can never be broken. The Law of Gravity is a law that is impartial and unbiased. If I jump off a building, I'm going to fall, whether I'm rich or poor, a Christian or a non-Christian. If you jump off a building, you're going to fall because of the Law of Gravity. And for hundreds of years, people have thought that the Law of Gravity means that human beings can't fly. But the Wright Brothers showed us that there are some other laws that are higher laws than the Law of Gravity and that supersede the Law of Gravity, such as the Law of Aerodynamics."
Peter Daniels, Doctor/Lecturer
—"Being positive is a powerful element to any relationship. But if the so-called Law of Attraction is your one and only principle, which is proposed here, you're going to be bitterly disappointed.
But let me quickly add that by not including this principle, you will likewise be disappointed.
Balance is very important as we walk life's tight rope."
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos"—"I fully believe that thinking positively and waking up with a good attitude and believing for things for the day, whether that's relationships that I need to come my way, or the doors of opportunity to open... All these things are good, and I do that every day. I do it often through my prayer time. I do it often through reading positive materials including the Word of God, other books written by great authors. But there is an element of The Secret book that moves over into making the Law of Attraction sound like 'it's all up to me and the power that I can elevate through my activities.' I firmly believe that there comes a point in every journey, in every initiative and effort where there is a sovereign purpose going on. That means there are going to be delays in my life that I don't understand."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"We're in a world with a lot of other people and a lot of other principles that are at work, that are based on the decisions and the choices of other people as well that can get on us. And then they can affect our lives."
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos"—"For instance, there was a relationship that I wanted to thrive in my life. I hung in there for years. I believed every positive thought and prayed without ceasing. I had every single energy, if you will, in my favor that that relationship would succeed. And it still failed. Now, what does that mean? That I didn't work hard enough and therefore failed to make the Law of Attraction work in my favor? No. There was an element of sovereign purpose that did not intend for that relationship to be in my life for the long term. Well, now, five, seven, eight, nine years later, I'm thrilled. I couldn't be more grateful!"
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"You plant something in the ground, it's supposed to come back. And it's supposed to come back in greater measure than when you put it in the ground. Or else there is no reason to put it in the ground. You might as well just eat it. And so you put one kernel in, you might get 400 back. That's good. But there are other things in the world that sometimes can stop that. That's how famine occurs. We get drought. We get a lot of things. And so, sometimes the laws don't work for you."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"And there are some things that are going to happen, and there are some things that are happening in our lives that we're not directly in control of. And I believe that those are opportunities to trust through acceptance that despite what happens, we have the ability to become more than we were, even if it was something negative."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"I ask people all over the world, that same question:
'What have you learned the most from in your life?' 'What have you grown the most from in your life?' 'What have been the times in your life that no matter how it felt at the time have most led to you being the person that you are?'
People invariably talk about the hard times, the pain, suffering, and the Scripture talks about that:
Suffering, leading to all these wonderful qualities in our lives."
Ken Bakken, D.O. DR.P.H., Author/Pain Management Specialist
—"Pain and suffering become that ragged edge of
creativity that we all live in, that hones us,
that hones us in love and compassion, and even a joy."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"There is nothing in this world, nothing under the sun, nothing on this side of the reality that's perfect. Nothing! So you got to have a God who is personal and who desires your very best to intervene when stuff doesn't work right. So I'm not dependent on great laws such as the Law of Attraction to work on my behalf, but I am dependent on a great God who loves me."
The Dark Side Of The Secret / Law Of Attraction
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"What can really be dangerous about the Secret book is that it makes the Law of Attraction seem to become closer to the force in "Star Wars" than it is to Biblical truth. It takes this impersonal universe and makes it your bellhop or butler."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"They actually say that all of us have different ways that we call a 'higher being' but in the end result it's really the genie, whose only real place in our lives and the reason he exists is simply to say, 'your wish is my command.'"
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"And so what the Secret has done is basically left us in the basement of life, that it's all about you. Good or bad, it's all about you."
Father John Calbom, Author/Founder, Trinity Wellness Institute—"If the Law of Attraction is the primary law, which is the Secret, then we have to say that anything that is in my life, I have attracted by my beliefs and by my emotions. Well, that causes some problems."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"That means that the people in the Holocaust really attracted this to themselves, that Hiroshima, Cambodia, and Rwanda, and crack-babies, and 9/11 victims, and on and on, all brought this upon themselves."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"It's one of the real issues that I have with The Secret. And they say that everything that comes into our lives, we attract. And they say that even a car wreck is something you've attracted into your life. If you get a car wreck, it's basically your fault, you've attracted it."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"There are other laws than the Law of Attraction that are existing in the Universe, like evil for instance. On 9/11 you can't tell me that all the victims of their horrible and horrendous terrorist attack were attracting death to themselves. Neither was the Holocaust that took place in World War II."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"I think this is where The Secret becomes a 'Dark Secret.' Because in the discussion of tragedies that Michael Bernard Beckwith's team deals with in The Secret book, not only are they suggesting that they are victims, but that they are the causal agents of what has happened to them."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"I remember in the early 90s being in a catastrophic earthquake in Micronesia. I was on the 9th floor of a hotel with a friend and then all of the sudden the room began to shake. And the TV flew out of the console, the sliding door flew over toward the Philippine Sea, and we knew right then that we were in an earthquake. And it shook for 60 seconds, and we later found out that it was an 8.2 on the Richter scale. That's an enormous earthquake. Now, while I was in that earthquake, there was only one thing that I could do, that was cry out to God. There were not enough happy thoughts in my being for the Law of Attraction to save me from the possible disaster of that earthquake, nor were there enough negative, depressing thoughts within me that brought that earthquake upon myself."
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos"—"So the Law of Attraction does not represent freedom for me, if I have to drive down the road every day and be in fear that if some random thought comes in my mind, and who of us hasn't had random thoughts like 'what would happen if I ran of the road and hit that tree, and how awful that would be,' and suddenly your thoughts are going down the path that 'suddenly my kids would not have a mom,' and all these things, and we're just in fear all of the sudden. And all of us have these thoughts every once in a while. But it's not freedom for me to have to live in that kind of fear that the Law of Attraction ultimately puts me in control, I'm so in control of my life that I have to think those thoughts and watch out for those bad thoughts. I can't live like that."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"To be left after reading that book with a thought that everything bad that's happened to me is the result of my negative thought patterns, I think that is a very unfortunate thing because that leaves so many people in a judgmental state about those that are less fortunate than we are. I have a very blessed and fortunate and privileged life, but I don't look at someone who's not as privileged and think, 'well, if only you used the Law of Attraction and thought a few more happy thoughts, then maybe you could get out of that mess you're in.'"
Kyla M. Kurian, Ph.D., Psychotherapist
—"It's not that simple. And I think that's where the danger comes in. This oversimplification of the Law of Attraction as A+B=C - in many respects it can be like that, but it's not as simple as what The Law of Attraction says. There is much-much more."
Filling The Void
Father John Calbom, Author/Founder, Trinity Wellness Institute—"There are two realities and the soul has to make a choice, 'Where is it going to go for its reality?' Well, for most of us, we have gone to the culture, and that's why you find in the Secret book and in the Law of Attraction that the emphasis is on more houses, bigger houses, bigger cars, things, things, things, material. Why? Because the culture says, 'if you have all these things, guess what's going to happen. You're going to be, what? LOVABLE! People are going to like you. You're going to be accepted.' Well, I can tell you, I've spent a fair amount of time with those people that had all those things and they didn't necessarily feel lovable."
Ken Bakken, D.O. DR.P.H., Author/Pain Management Specialist
—"We don't want anybody to know who we really are, because if you knew who I was then you wouldn't love me, you wouldn't like me. So we defend that. We can defend that with degrees, and with cars, and with houses, and with all the success that the society values, our culture values. That's not the true self. That's not the self that God values."
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"I think one of the biggest myths that needs debunking is the idea that wealth and material affluence produce happiness. If that was so, then I think everybody would agree that one place in America where the Law of Attraction would make it truly impossible to find a psychiatrist or a shrink or a therapist would be Beverly Hills. And all the psychiatrists would be clustered in the poverty corners of the country. Oddly enough it doesn't seem to work that way. It seems as if more people become dismal and miserable and mentally upset by having too much rather than by too little."
Shad Wehrli, Life Coach/Co-Creator: "Source of The Secret"—"Some people tend to focus so much on just these temporary things - just getting a better car, a better house, and all these things, and really not get fulfillment out of that."
Michael Hammer, Chairman Armand Hammer Foundation
—"Imagine your whole life, your only hope for happiness is to achieve wealth. That's the only thing you shoot for. And once you achieve it and then you realize, 'Oh, my gosh that doesn't bring me happiness!' The whole purpose of your being is just eliminated right there. Now what do I do?"
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"What are you going to do with all that stuff you've gotten? I've never seen any funerals that have U-Hauls behind them. It just doesn't exist. You can't take it with you."
Michael Hammer, Chairman Armand Hammer Foundation
—"I remember when my grandfather passed away, someone who - not in a rude way - asked me, because he knew that I was in charge, 'How much money did your grandfather leave?'
And I looked at him and I said, 'He left everything.' It doesn't matter whether you're rich or poor, when you die what you have here stays here."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"And so it's important for us to realize that we're on this planet for more than just applying the Law of Attraction to accumulate stuff."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"I think that what people miss, what they don't understand, is that even the cry of their heart for control, and the longing they have in their heart for good, those are really rumors of a longing for God.
There is a cool text in Ecclesiastes where the writer says that 'God has also set eternity in the hearts of men...' – Ecclesiastes 3:11.
Crudely stated, that means there is like a God-hole inside us. And we can try to fill it with more stuff, big houses, great jobs, happy relationships, romantic relationships, whatever you're trying to do... And the reality is that it will never be full."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"People are so hungry for something that's going to help them. And innately God has this residual presence on the inside of every person. We're made in His Image. And so the temporal reality doesn't suffice for what's down on the inside, it doesn't satisfy it, it doesn't fulfill."
Father John Calbom, Author/Founder, Trinity Wellness Institute—"Pascal had a famous quote called 'That God-Filled Vacuum.' It means that we all have that vacuum inside of us, and if we don't allow God and His Love to fill that vacuum, if we don't know that it's alright to exist, that we are a blessing to God, and we're to be a blessing to one another, then we're going to fill that hole, that void up with anything that we can get."
Paying The Price
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"In the Bible there was a guy who was described as the rich, young ruler. Now, if you are young, rich, and in charge, it doesn't get any better than that! The Law of Attraction seemed to be working very well for him! So he had everything, and yet he felt that something was missing in his life. He said to Jesus, 'What must I do to inherit eternal life?' And Jesus said, 'You've got too much stuff. Give it all away and then you can come and follow Me.' Now I don't know that Jesus would have said that to everybody. But with this guy, he worshipped and gave too much attention to his material possessions, and that competed with his relationship with God. And Jesus knew that, and He put His Finger on it. He said, 'You've got issues. Give up that stuff and come and follow Me.' Describing that there was more, Jesus said in conclusion, 'Know that you'll have a treasure in Heaven as a result.' The guy said, 'Gosh I can't do it.' The Law of Attraction was unable to help him give up on what he needed to give up! And he went away sad, because he had so much wealth and Jesus said, 'You have to give it away.' And he trusted in the wrong thing, and that is completely contrary to what the Secret book says. The Secret book says once he had it all, he had it all. And the man, who had it all, didn't have it all, Jesus said. And so there's another secret that Jesus was trying to give him that he did not possess. And that's this intangible, invisible realm that allows you to be blessed beyond anything that this world can offer. And it's not that God only wants you to be blessed there, it's that He wants you to be blessed there in addition to what He gives you here. The Secret only concentrates on the stuff that we get now."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"The Scripture does not say that those things are not for our benefit and that we should not have those things. As a matter of fact, the world that God created and gave to us is for our enjoyment and our pleasure. But it doesn't end there."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"Jesus said, 'Give and it shall be given to you.' And there is this general sense in the Scriptures that when you are free and openhanded with what you have, that somehow that opens doors for things to come back to you. And, "... the Lord Jesus Himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than it is to receive'" – Acts 20:35.
Because I think, not only are you opening the way for things to come back to you, you're doing something in your own soul that sets you free from being controlled by things."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"What does it really profit a man to get everything and lose everything? In His own words, Jesus said, 'Does it really profit a man to gain the whole world and to forfeit his soul?' And what we need to determine is what is most important. What is most important?"
Dr. Eugene Flood, Jr. President & CEO. Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.—"Now, what are you going to do? Just go out and get more, and get more? Well, many people do that and they end up at the end of their lives or at the end of their careers with lots of stuff, and then feeling very unhappy."
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"One of the keys to happiness is adjusting what we want with what we're willing to sacrifice to get it. Because even with the things that are in range, are you truly willing to sacrifice your relationship with your family?"
Charles Mann, Former NFL Athlete Washington Redskins—"My daughter goes to a pretty prestigious school in the area, and so presidents of AOL, of Capital One, of Governor, former Governors, all these great people go to this school that my daughter attends. And I've seen these men and these families outside of the school. In fact, this one particular family were at this same vacation site, where we went vacationing with them. Never once did I see the Daddy. I saw the wife dragging around her five children. The Daddy was there. Never once saw him. They have it all in the world's eyes, they have it all: money, power, position. But I looked at his wife and I felt so sad for her. They're going after what the world says is success: the cars, the houses, the beautiful wives..."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"Good success is increase without a divorce. It is advancement without family dissemination, without a broken heart, without a broken life. So one of the problems is that you may have success, but you may not have good success."
Pay It Forward
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"In the Law of Attraction as it is taught in the Secret, there are a lot of wonderful things about it, there is a lot of truth there.
But I think one of the ways that it misses the mark is that it shoots too low."
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured On The Original "The Secret"
—"It's about giving. Give and you will receive. 'But seek first The Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be given to you as well' – Matthew 6:33.
It's never about getting for self. So the Secret wound up about how to get the girl, how to get the house, how to get the boat, how to get hold of the pizzazz of this life, stuff, and worldly goods. And that's not what life is about."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"The Secret book basically says that I am the center of my universe, that the universe exists to make me happy, that the universe exists to bless me, and that I will receive all these great things by applying the Law of Attraction ."
Robb Thompson, Doctor/Author/Lecturer/Life Coach
—"There are those among us who believe that giving creates the getting of life, that it is an end within itself, that this benevolence by which people live actually only causes themselves to feel good.
When, in fact nothing could be further from the truth. The reason for giving is so that you and I could be able to answer the needs and the questions of society."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"So, does God want you to prosper? Absolutely! The key question is: What does that mean? For some people it may mean that they have to be like Bill Gates, or a millionaire or they have to have six figures. Prosperity really means having enough to meet your need and then some left over to meet other people's needs."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"The reason why God has placed us on this earth is to be a blessing to others."
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"And that's a very different thing from sitting in isolation, ignoring everybody else, being utterly self-focused, and say, 'I think I wish myself wealth.' That's not how wealth comes. Wealth comes from trying to figure out ways to make other people happy."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"I would submit to you that Mother Teresa was prosperous. You say, 'How could she be? She was living in the midst of poverty in Calcutta.' Because she had what she needed and she was able to bring that to other people's lives as well."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"I've been to the Dead Sea many times in Israel. And it's so fun; you can just float in the Dead Sea. You can't drown in the Dead Sea, and that's because there are so many minerals and salts there in the Dead Sea that you float. And nothing can live in the Dead Sea. That's why it's called the Dead Sea. And that's because the Jordan River flows from the Sea of Galilee into the Dead Sea and nothing flows out of the Dead Sea. And because nothing flows out of it, it's dead, there is no life. And I know a lot of people, who receive God's blessings, and every good thing comes from God, but they never give out to make a difference. They never understand that it's for His purpose, and they're basically dead. They are dead emotionally and relationally and spiritually. And there's just no life because they don't understand their ultimate purpose."
What Do You Really Want?
Ken Bakken, D.O. DR.P.H., Author/Pain Management Specialist
—"I do this with patients all the time. I look at them and say, 'What is it that you need? What is it that you really want?" And when you ask that question hundreds, thousands of patients, it's not 'I want a bigger house or a faster car or a bigger diamond.' It isn't that at all. 'I want love. I want to be healed of my hurts. I want to feel good again. I want a good relationship with my mom.' All that stuff."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"They did a study at SMU University, when I took people and said, 'OK, what do you want?' And every single participant told them 'This is what I want.' And I kept asking them questions. And the result of the study was that everybody wants the same thing whether they know it or not. And it's love, joy, and peace. Going for the house, the car, the money, it's shooting too low."
Oral Roberts, Evangelist/Founder of Oral Roberts University
—"The 23rd Psalm by David said, 'The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want...' – Psalm 23. But when he used the word 'want,' he wasn't just thinking of this, that, and the other. He was speaking of the want in your inner being of your very soul. And Jesus said, "I am the Good Shepherd..." – John 10:14. So I would read it like this, 'The Lord who is my Good Shepherd, through Him I shall not want.' And thank God for the Good Shepherd, Jesus, who meets our deepest want."
What's Your Purpose?
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"People are longing to have some purpose beyond just waking up everyday and doing 9 to 5. They want to know that they are on this planet for a reason, and that there is a secret to life. The Law of Attraction alone simply cannot address that need."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"To practice the Law of Attraction and the principles that are about trying to create a rich abundant life without a groundedness in purpose that's from the core, from really the essence of who you are and why you're here, will end up bringing an unfulfilling experience. There'll be a lot of work and a lot of striving, and then a lot of manifestation of the physical realm, and no soulful depth of meaning and joy. And probably it'll be a fairly significant disappointment."
Dr. Eugene Flood, Jr. President & CEO. Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.—"People who focus entirely on simply winning with no purpose behind the winning are the ones that really struggle with anxiety, really struggle with strife, and also have huge ups and downs, because they're not anchored to anything."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"They lacked that God-given, understood purpose that was about something else other than themselves. And what happened without purpose was there was emptiness. And with the emptiness there was a lot of activity to try to distract from the emptiness. And a lot of that activity led to a lot of pathology. So the lack of purpose oftentimes brings about destruction."
Dr. Eugene Flood, Jr. President & CEO. Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.—"What is your purpose? Would you like your children to like you? Would you like people in your company to look up to you? Would you like to help feed people who are around you who need food, the hungry? Would you like to help clothe orphans that need help? Most people if you asked them that and they looked into their heart, they would say, 'Yah, you know that’s important to me.'"
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos" —"There is something empowering about that sense that 'I'm not just here for my own gain, I'm here to make a difference in the lives of others'. When I'm really in tune with that, what is my unique call? What is it that I'm assigned to do for other people in the world? That's when the lights come on on people's faces. You start seeing people go 'Wow! This is the impact that I can make, that I'm uniquely qualified to make.' That's life-giving. That's energizing. And in the end, I'm attracting people to my life that I need, but the motive is different."
What Do You Believe?
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"Where the subconscious mind creates an automatic response system is where your personal belief system is. It's where 95% of your decisions are made every single day of your life. It has to do with your subconscious mind."
John Bevere, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker—"So if you believe that you are a failure, if you believe you are burdensome to people, you believe that you are going to fail at what you put your hand to, because of that belief in your heart Jesus says that a man shall have what he says and what he believes. Mark 11:24"
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"It's like the autopilot on an airplane. If I set that airplane at 30,000 feet and I push the stick down to 20,000 feet, it comes back up to 30,000 feet when I release it. If I take the stick and pull it up to 35,000 feet and then I release it, it comes back to 30,000 feet. It's called a 'set point.' And in psychology they use it for self-limiting beliefs. There are certain set points that come into our lives."
Brian Klemmer, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker
—"Well, willpower or determination really is never enough. Talk to anybody that's trying to lose weight, stop smoking. It doesn't really matter.
Willpower, determination comes from the conscious mind, and it's going to get beat because the conscious mind was not designed to solve problems."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"So most people have self-limiting beliefs or set points they don't understand exist. And because that's the case, they're manifesting what they don't want instead of what they do want."
Robb Thompson, Doctor/Author/Lecturer/Life Coach
—"We draw to ourselves those things which we believe.
It's an interesting thing that we find that people can actually bring to themselves what they believe about themselves."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"You can never rise above the image you have of yourself in your heart. If you want to change an area of your heart, you've got to see the image of yourself in that area change first."
Brian Klemmer, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker
—"In Romans 12:2, it says that 'And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...'
What Paul's talking about is a renewing of their subconscious mind."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"Now, in the Church, we have given ourselves more to change than transformation. Change is behavior modification. Transformation comes from the inside out. It is an effortless change that comes on the inside of you. How? By renewing your mind. This term 'renew' means to renovate. It means to restore to its original state."
Oral Roberts, Evangelist/Founder of Oral Roberts University
—"Nobody has the power to think correctly, unless we align our thinking with God.
And God says that whatsoever a man believes, that's what happens to him, that's what he is. Proverbs 23:7"
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"A large part of the structure of the Bible is to make sure that not only do we act in a noble and virtuous way, in a way that makes not only God proud of us but also makes us a blessing to our fellow human beings, but more importantly that in our innermost hearts we see ourselves as good and not evil, so that we see ourselves as people striving upwards rather than people who are falling into an abyss."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"We need to take an inventory of what it is that we believe and whether it is based on truth. What do we believe about ourselves? What do we believe about God? What do we believe about how our lives should work? And we need to get that cleaned up. Once that's cleaned up and it's based on truth, you have the ability to receive and you have the ability to attract that which God is trying to bring into your life."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"So you have to learn to create new beliefs in you. So once you do that, you intentionally increase the manifestation of your faith by meditating on the truth of God's Word, renew your mind, establish your heart, transform your personal belief system. And you can see increase begin to take place in your life."
Guard Your Heart
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured On The Original "The Secret"
—"The Law of Intent is conscious. It's what we're intending. The problem is that we do that with our mind. There is another part of our being called our heart, and I'm not talking about the pump.
I'm talking about our heart of hearts. The one about which the Scripture says, 'out of your heart flow all of the issues of your life' -Proverbs 4:23. That heart is what runs our lives. It is what runs where we live our lives from. It is what determines whether the Law of Attraction may really benefit us at all."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"Rhonda Byrne [author of the Secret book] filmed me to be part of "The Secret", but I was left on the editing floor.
And I believe it was because I talked in that interview so much about how the Law of Attraction, yes, is real.
But the thing that determines whether the Law of Attraction is going to work in your life or not is the condition of your heart."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"Everything you do comes out of your heart. 'Above all else, guard your heart, for out of it comes issues of life.' Proverbs 4:23 'As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.' Proverbs 23:7. So, whatever is in your heart, that is what you're going to do. Not maybe, not probably, not possibly. If it is in your heart, you are going to do it."
Father John Calbom, Author/Founder, Trinity Wellness Institute—"We have found that the heart is where our thoughts and our feelings and our spirit come together as well as our body. So we could say that the heart is the center of who we are."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"When the head and heart conflict, the heart wins every time. Well, when I ask, believe, and receive, that's with my head. That's conscious.
I know exactly what I'm asking for, and that's what the Law of Attraction may bring me, but only if my head and heart do not conflict."
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured on The Original "The Secret"
—"If there's something in your heart of hearts that conflicts with your conscious intent, guess which is going to win.
Every time, your heart is going to win over your head."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"And as Dr. Ben Johnson and I travel around the world and talk to audiences who are interested in or talking about "The Secret," this is one question we ask them: 'How many of you are NOT having the results with "The Secret"?'
And there will be hands going up all over the room. And I can tell you the difference. The ones that are not having the results, their head and heart are conflicting.
They've got something in their heart that's saying 'a-ah... that's never going to happen, you can't do that, that's not going to work for you...'
The people that are having it happen, their heart agrees with them already."
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured on The Original "The Secret"
—"So you wanted to make the Law of Attraction work in your life?
You've got to get your heart issues straight. So it's not just, 'I want this, I intend this...'
Because the heart will block the Law of Attraction every time, if you don't have the issues of your heart straightened out."
Oral Roberts, Evangelist/Founder of Oral Roberts University
—"For the Bible is true,
'As each of us thinks in our heart,' Proverbs 23:7, as we THINK in our heart;
notice, not just in the mind;
as we think in our inner being,
as we think in the deepest recesses of our self,
that's who we are."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—'Proverbs 4:23 – "Keep thy heart with all diligence;
for out of it are the issues of life."
Guard your heart above everything else for from it flow the issues of life."
Ron McIntosh, Executive Director Victory Bible Institute—"That term 'issues' in Hebrew is the term 'boundaries.' The boundaries in your life are determined by the thoughts that are in your heart."
Alex Loyd N.D., Ph.D., Founder "The Healing Codes"
—"So if we really want to go to the source,
if we really want to heal the issues of our life,
all of them and any of them,
we have to clean up our heart."
David Leifeste, M.S., L.P.C., Psychotherapist/Life Coach—"You can't override that, you can't skirt it, you can't skim over it. In order to apply the Law of Attraction and the Secret principles, you have to honestly take appraisal and be able to face it as it is in order to change it. And sometimes that means it's something kind of negative. Sometimes it means it is a little dark, sometimes it is scary. But sometimes you have to go to the Cross before you can go to your resurrection. You got to go through the pain in order to get the glory. I've never seen it any other way."
The Source Of All Good Things
Ben Johnson M.D., N.M.D., D.O. Physician Featured On The Original "The Secret"
—"We're taught in the Scripture to be in thankfulness, to be in gratefulness, to be thinking about those things which are good.
And so we need to be there, and life will change for us by applying God's Laws."
Charles Mann, Former NFL Athlete Washington Redskins
—"Living a grateful life and being grateful for
things has caused me to view life differently,
because I know what I got plucked out of.
I was saved from myself."
Dan Arnold, CEO. Road Ranger USA
—"You can't be grateful and prideful
at the same time, because to be grateful
you give credit to the source
that gave you your gifts."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"One of the great things that God has given us is the power to create wealth and to bring increase in our lives. And there is not a prohibition against that in the Scripture. The prohibition is against forgetting where these blessings come from."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"So if somebody is grateful they need to acknowledge somebody has been benevolent to them, somebody has been gracious, there's a benefactor out there that has allowed them to do this. Now, even though their hard work has contributed to their success, the environment that created the moment whereby their hard work could contribute to their success was not in their control."
Ron Lewis, Ron Lewis Ministries/Philanthropist—"One of the things about Scriptures is that they say, 'Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above" [James 1:17]. Now, when I get these things, when they're given to me or when I acquire them or I purchase them, I have two choices. I can either say, "Thank you, Lord. This is awesome. I will appreciate this and use it the way You have intended for me to use it, and then one day give it away and recycle Your blessings and keep them going forward." Or I can say, "Isn't this awesome what my thought life gave me? Didn't I do a great job? Well, I'm so glad I have the Law of Attraction and all these principles." There's no gratitude, no thankfulness. There is no sense that there is someone greater than me."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"So when I talk about gratefulness, I'm not saying, 'Thank you, O Law of Attraction! Thank you, O Law of Reciprocation!' I'm not saying that. I'm saying, 'Thank You, God, for allowing me the privilege of working Your Words so that it works for me.'"
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"He is the One who has given you all of the harvests that you've had. He is the One – I love this – who has given you all of the Good that you know, why you fall in love, why your children touch you the way they do, why you can laugh at funny things. It's God who gives you all of these gifts."
Shad Wehrli, Life Coach/Co-Creator: "Source of The Secret"—"The key here with the Law of Attraction is to be grateful to the source, not just grateful for being grateful."
Lynette Lewis, Speaker/Author "Climbing The Ladder In Stilettos"—"Approaching life that way with a sense of gratitude to God for being in control of my life, for giving me what He knows I need, that sense of gratitude becomes life-changing."
The Source Of The Secret
Bob Harrison, "America's Increase Activist"
—"Knowing that millions of copies of the Secret book and video have been sold, and people have listened to it and read, I feel it is a positive thing because it can introduce them to the Law of Attraction, one of the principles that cause them to have greater success. But the danger is it's not going to take them far enough unless they learn the Source."
Kerry Shook, Pastor/Author "One Month To Live"—"At the end of the day after you close the Secret book, are you going to follow just principles, the Law of Attraction and the Secret? Or, are you going to follow the Real Secret, Jesus Christ?"
Father John Calbom, Author/Founder, Trinity Wellness Institute—"Yes. The Law of Attraction and all the other principles are important to understand. It's important to understand how we were created. But the most important secret, I believe, is that we're not alone."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"The people that have discovered this Law of Attraction, I just love it, I'm excited for them, because they're tasting something good. But there is something so much more. If they will just continue to pursue and begin to even open up their heart even to God, if they will begin just simply to say to God, 'God, the One who created the Law of Attraction, if you start revealing Yourself to me...' and just begin to talk to the God of the Law of Attraction, they'll begin to discover more."
John Bevere, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker—"The Law of Attraction has not been a secret. It's been there all along, it's been in the Word of God right from the foundations. It's been taught to Adam right from the very beginning. God is the one who set those. So let's go to the source of the Secret book. Let's know God because there's so much to know when we come to know God. The Secret book is only tapping into a portion of what God has given."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"It's important to understand that, with all of these laws that are given, particularly the Law of Attraction, the Law of Sowing and Reaping, or any other law that you can talk about, it all goes back to one source.
And that's a benevolent, loving, irrationally caring God, who is recklessly and incautiously in love with the world, and particularly with the human race."
David Barton, Author/Historian—"In Washington DC one of the many monuments there, is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. You walk inside, and one of the tabloids engraved in stone from the book that he wrote in 1781 says this, 'And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God, and that they're not to be violated, but with His wrath?' [Notes on Virginia Q.XVIII, 1782. ME 2:227] His point is, if we ever lose the conviction that what we have comes from God, we lose the liberties that come from there. So, when you try to take these principles, you try to take these good things, one of them being the Law of Attraction, and you separate them from their source, you actually lose the good things that the source provided. And the source is the Scriptures."
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rabbinic Scholar/Author & Speaker—"The point is that the Law of Attraction requires a kind of balance that is brought about by the Presence of God in one's life. Taking that away leaves one unanchored and again at the mercy of ideas, at the mercy of feelings, at the mercy of those demons that can overtake one in the dark hours of the night."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—'The difference between having a relationship with God, which utilizes the Law of Attraction, and having just the Law of Attraction, is that the end product is not that you get the thing that you want to be attracted to you. The end product is that you get God. And when you get God, you get all the stuff He has for you."
Shad Wehrli, Life Coach/Co-Creator: "Source of The Secret"—"The source to "The Secret" is God and a relationship with Him. He is the source for everything. And that's when I saw the initial "Secret". I saw that it was incomplete because it talked about the universe but not The One who created the universe, talked about creation, but not the Creator. And so, I saw that it was absolutely incomplete. The source is God. I mean, after all, the Law of Attraction sounds good, but how can you have a Law without a Lawgiver?"
Robb Thompson, Doctor/Author/Lecturer/Life Coach
—"The source of 'The Secret' is the Savior, whom He has sent to be able to change the world, so that the whole of the things that a person could ever desire from this life is truly provided for them inside of the Source, inside of God Himself.
And inside there, the Law of Attraction is part of a set of laws that rule Life."
John Bevere, Best-Selling Author/International Speaker—"And so, if we would just remember that we're just tapping into the Law of Attraction, merely one of the laws that God Himself has already established, we would want to go to the Source, because I'd much rather know the Source of the Secret, who is God, who is the Creator, who is a real Personality, and we're created in His image. I want to know Him, not just His secrets."
Bob Harrison, "America's Increase Activist"
—"It's one thing to know the Law of Attraction. Knowing the laws is like reading a book, and learning some principles. But how much better would it be, if we could visit with the Author, and be able to have a relationship with Him, and ask Him questions that are more than just what was revealed in the Book? And that's why it's so important to know the Source and not just the laws. And so a person shouldn't just be satisfied with learning 'what,' they should learn 'who.' And when they know the Source, it will make all the difference in every area of their life."
Ed Gungor, NY Times Best Selling Author and Speaker
—"There is a thirst in the human heart that's longing for the Source of all the good that we see. And the Source is the Person of God through Jesus Christ.
And so I think that it would be a sad thing, if people don't discover, really, that the reason that all this is here - and then we discover more things that God has for us in this world - goes back to this Wonderful Being, who really wants to connect with us and let us be a part of His Mission of making the world a grander, more wonderful place to be."
Brett Fuller, Sr. Pastor Grace Covenant Church/Co-Chaplain NFL Redskins—"There is something about the Presence of God that is fulfilling forever. He is always fresh, He is always new, He renews our spirit, He makes us better people. I mean, there is something about capturing and obtaining Him that makes everything in this world worthwhile, and that puts it in proper perspective. And so, even though the Law of Attraction temporarily might, from the outer perspective, bring us the same amount of stuff, there is an invisible reality called the Presence of God that allows everything to be enjoyed in its proper perspective when you get Him with it."
The Narrator—"The discovery of the Law of Attraction is just the beginning. The journey can and must go deeper. Be inspired to continue your own journey as you search for and discover the Source behind these laws. For when you seek, you will find. And, through this journey, come face-to-face with a loving God, the true Source of Life, Love, and all the good you have ever known."
